Bipolar Toddlers? Another WTF moment in America.

Ok. I love my country. I love the fact that we celebrate your right to be whoever, however, whatever, wherever, and whenever you want at any point (unless you want to be a same-sex couple, in which case, no dice). But when I received an invite in the mail for an event asking for a donation (of course) and realized that there was an actual affiliation for bipolar toddlers (I thought they were all moody?!), I just had to take pause. Ok. Really? There are Marines dying in Afghanistan, genocide in Darfur, and people in Haiti literally crawling to UN food shelters for 1 scoop of rice and we're using money to placate rich people who have nothing better to do than blame a damned normal part of childhood on a serious mental health issue that really does affect over 5.7 million adults in the world. Really oh ye who live in white suburbs of America, please stop marginalizing serious causes by advocating that your children have something wrong with them simply because you are inconvenienced for one second and have to get out of your damned politically correct, though brake-impaired Prius (there's something else to blame someone over) and call Nanny Stella on your cell phone to pick up your 3 year old from their upper-Richland Heights/Murray Hill area private daycare/arts prep school because they are pitching a temper tantrum about an organic goldfish cracker. Enough already.*

*that said, a footnote...that though tedious, is necessary. I work at a school. I understand that there are cases, as with anything, that prove the exception makes the rule. I know this. I also know that there are a bunch of rich, white people with a lot of time on their hands. Also, poor, white, other-raced, it doesn't matter excuses-know-no-boundaries people. I get it. They need to get with it too.

Dear AG in J,

Greetings from Warsaw, Poland!

I found you through some links from links from The Mom Blogs (ah, the power of the internet, huh?), and I have looked through some of your posts and archives. I too am a transplanted ex-pat (Canadian in Poland) and I write about what it's like to live, work and raise two boys in a culture that does not always make sense to me...

My husband recently suggested to me that I find other ex-pats with blogs and interesting points of view, and invite them to write a guest post about their life abroad. I've been kicking his idea around, and I've read several blogs, and now that I have found yours, I was wondering if you'd do me the honour of being a guest blogger. I'd really love it if you would write a bit about the (preferably funny) cultural differences you've observed and experienced; many of your posts are about that, and you have a great sense of humour, so maybe this will be a good fit?? I really liked your posts about Doodle's lunches at her Japanese school, for example, and I know my readers would find that kind of thing really fascinating.

Maybe drop by my blog (www.warsawmommy.com) and see if you'd like to contribute a post... if so, leave a comment for me there and we can 'talk' about when you'd like to get your guest post to me ;)

Oh, and the post from my first guest blogger - Badger from Vienna - went up yesterday and so you can also check it out.
Sorry for the long post that is actually an e-mail, but I couldn't find any contact info on your site.

Take care!
Michelle
